Describe your morning routine.
My routine is really nothing special, maybe a little early, but pretty normal. I am up by 5 a.m., in the office by 6, finish a pot of Starbucks Sumatra by 7, and I am ready for the day.
How do you wind down at the end of a busy day or week?
I normally get home around 6 or 6:30 p.m., and wind down with a glass or two of wine (except during lent, of course). Then have dinner with my wife and family. As difficult as it sometimes is, with everyone’s busy schedules, we still do sit down to dinner as a family most evenings.
What newspapers and magazines do you regularly read?
On a daily basis I read the Times of Trenton to try to find out what is happening in our community. Of course I read the midJersey Business when it comes out each month. I read a few more business periodicals like NJBIZ and New Jersey Business magazine, and I also read a few trade publications including Engineering News Record and a sustainable/green building publication that most people have probably not heard of.
Biggest pet peeve?
I have a few of these, some personal and some business related. One is when people do not respond to emails directed to them, requesting specific information or asking a question.
The same thing goes for texting. Another is those left-lane drivers on the highways that just insist on
driving in the left lane and do not allow you to pass them. They really make me crazy.
What leisure activities occupy your time away from the office?
Spending time at my children’s sporting events takes up a lot of time away from the office and is something that I really enjoy. I also enjoy skiing. I have been skiing since I was in fifth grade and still enjoy it, although the cold is starting to bother me a bit. My wife and I started our children skiing and now they are snowboarding, so it is something we still get to do as a family. I also enjoy the Jersey Shore in the summer. My family spends most weekends at the shore during the summer.
Fill in the blank: Most people don’t know that I _______________.
Make wine with my brother, family, and friends. We have a fairly nice setup at my brother’s house, and each fall we get our shipment of grapes from California and start our yearlong process of turning grape juice into wine. We have a good time with it and have had some very memorable events.
If you could learn any skill, what would it be?
To speak another language or to read music.
Stranded on a desert island, name the three items you need to survive.
First would be my wife; she loves the sun, sand, and the beach—and I would never go to an island without her. The second would be an umbrella; I really do not like sitting in the sun at all, so that would allow me to spend more time on the island with my wife. I think that would work for both of us. The third would be my cell phone; it would allow me to read, catch the news, and communicate with the rest of the world.
If you could start over, what profession would you pursue?
Construction. Without a doubt.
